Six Day Run in Kiasma
The short film SIX DAY RUN (soundtrack by Circle) opened on November 1 in the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki. The 5.1 projection runs non-stop during museum hours until March 2, 2014 as part of Mika Taanila's show Time Machines.
Falcon (ex-Circle) - Frontier
Foreshadowed by the hit single Beer and Ribs, FALCON (EX-CIRCLE) continue their ascent to rock 'n' roll heaven with their full-length debut, Frontier. With a dazzling array of textures and tempos, FALCON (EX-CIRCLE) take the listener on an instantly addicting journey through lazer-beamed AOR and soft rock, with more than a few nods to hot-rockin' weekend rock. Stained-glass synths soar majestically across pulsing beats and power balladry, anthems for one and anthems for all, heading out on the highway with the top down and the sun in your eyes and the wind in your hair. Appropriately, the song titles themselves explore timeless themes like "Miami Tits," "Vegas Sundown," "Leather Seat," "Ace of Hearts," and of course the mandatory "Beer and Ribs." This is music for the Everyman, and also for the greater good: unapologetically populist arena-sized sounds beamed in from outer space. Frontier will take you there; hitch a ride with FALCON (EX-CIRCLE).

The discography of CIRCLE is as vast and winding as the legendary Finnish band's history: From blissed-out quietude to teeth-gnashing noise and virtually everything in between, CIRCLE have done it all, and always with their characteristically quirky charm. Now, that very same quirkiness extends to the band's actual moniker, as they've recently "loaned" it to other bands and musicians while they're meanwhile exploring cosmic AOR and soft rock in Falcon (ex-Circle). The first fruit of this unusual alliance/dalliance is appropriately titled Incarnation. From the first seconds in and onward, it's readily apparent that this Incarnation is quite a different CIRCLE. Sure, CIRCLE have done plenty of loud/aggressive/"extreme" records before, but never have they been as brutal 'n' burly as they are on Incarnation. Fittingly, the members of "this" CIRCLE have deep roots in the modern Finnish death metal underground; the names of their current or ex-bands aren't necessarily important. And yet, par for CIRCLE's course, the downtuned 'n' devastating death metal across Incarnation isn't "just" the death metal that's so common to the nowadays scene, but rather is taken to more unusual, often-hypnotic ends, with textures and tempos quite uncommon for the genre. The result is record that's inviting and beguiling in equal measures, but is exciting and defiant at every turn - hail the new Incarnation!

Mamiffer & Circle
The first track off the collaborative album by Mamiffer and Circle "Enharmonic Intervals (for Paschen Organ)". Out 10/15 on SIGE Records (2xLP) and Ektro Records (CD).
Forget what you know about the Seattle-area sound-art project Mamiffer and the Finnish hypno-rock institution Circle. Enharmonic Intervals (for Paschen Organ), the first in a proposed series of joint efforts involving these parties, contains few of the musical hallmarks you might associate with either performer. The comforts of austere piano sketches and solemn nocturnes are largely absent; the wallop of repetitive rhythms and metallic kitsch is nowhere to be found. It's as if an unseen hand has erased the auditory signatures of each group and left behind only impressions, embers, filaments, and shadows. As with Mamiffer's recent collaboration with Locrian, the work is anything but a predictable merger of two bands' established visions.
Recorded over a single day at Keski-Porin Kirkko, the nineteenth-century stone church in the heart of Circle's hometown, the basic tracks for Enharmonic Intervals exude divine inspiration. Caressed by Faith Coloccia, Aaron Turner, Jussi Lehtisalo, and Mika Rättö, the house of worship's immense Paschen organ sets a liturgical, contemplative mood, which persists unabated through a cycle of improvisations and short compositions. The album opens and closes with slowly building sinfoniettas of sustained drone and flatlining feedback that shine heavenly light onto the wan, academic corpse of avant-garde minimalism. In the middle, all sorts of hell breaks loose: Coloccia chants wordless omens on a distant shore, Turner shouts his lungs out, Lehtisalo speaks in tongues from atop synthesized snowbanks, Rättö gargles operatic gibberish, hummingbird guitars flutter past, and delicate chords glisten like dewdrops on Arctic lichen. Much of this earthly ruckus stems from additional sessions spent brainstorming, fine-tuning, cooking, and stoking the sauna at the Lehtisalo family cottage, deep in rural Finland. (A couple of months later via the miracle of technology, Eyvind Kang tacked on a spot of viola while visiting Turner and Coloccia at their Washington state abode.)
Instead of engaging in some lazy superstar jam, Mamiffer and Circle have gone above and beyond to create a site-specific triumph that bridges the gap between serene, holy bliss and the warm, messy sprawl of humanity. Amen to that, brothers and sisters.

Circle is now Falcon
Falcon (ex-Circle) kicks off by whacking on the table the hit single Beer and Ribs. Strongly influenced by AOR and soft rock, this catchy rocker knocks on the doors of shady radio playlist cabinets. The lowest common denominators and the hottest rock and roll clichés launch Falcon (ex-Circle) as the rock heaven's wildest new name, whose success story is just waiting to be written down. Slashing riffs, speeding synths, motorik beats and soulful vocals are combined with the dazzling vision and flair of these experienced rock veterans.

Falcon (ex - Circle) - Sunset Street by Ektro Records
"From 1991 through 2013, Falcon operated under the name of Circle. The need for the sudden name change arises from the Circle brand's becoming somewhat of a burden due to the expectations of Ektro Records and audiences. Making music was turning into work and an obligation. The Circle brand has been leased to a group of artists, who are currently working on the next Circle album. The full-lengths of both Falcon (ex-Circle) and Circle will be released later this autumn. The current plan is that the lease contract dissolves by the end of 2013 and the Circle brand will be returned to Falcon, who then may continue under the name Circle (ex-Falcon). All Circle concerts booked for 2013 will be performed by Circle's long standing line-up: Mika Rättö, Janne Westerlund, Jussi Lehtisalo, Tomi Leppänen, Pekka Jääskeläinen, Julius Jääskeläinen, Tuomas Laurila."

Panic coming soon on vinyl
This time these experimental veterans study the both ends of the previously unheard static / hyper-active scale. Soundwise they have clearly proceeded to the 21st century, jumping from limpid synthesizer soundscapes to wall-smashing "speed-kraut" bursts. The triptych construction of the album along with the cover art that portrays war and street riots raise various associations on the history and the current state of Western civilization.
Panic was originally released on CD in 2007.

Golem / Vesiliirto CD out soon
Circle boldly unroll their experimental rock balancing on the edge of everything imaginable. The combination of the crunch of tectonic plates with insane epic improvisations and exhausting repetitiveness on the live album Golem poses questions the listener alone can answer and be impressed of. Mika Rättö squeals like he'd gone mad while the deranged band grinds itself up from the depths. The studio album Vesiliirto seems to strangely drag forward in a sped up universe, where uppers are downers and the dragging are humming bird's wing beats. The album presents remarkable moments for receptive ears from one of Circle's most prolific eras.
Golem/Vesiliirto was first released by Kevyt Nostalgia and Super Metsä as a double vinyl in 2004. The live part was recorded in Semifinal (Helsinki) November 2, 2003. This double CD version contains over 35 minutes of bonus material!

There are quite a few masterpieces in the world and one of them is the magnificent album Fun at the Funeral by Jesters of Destiny. It was released in 1986, but it has never received the attention it deserves. The album is so timeless it is in its own league, full of brilliant heavy-metal tracks with a hint of psychedelia, punk and avantgarde. Jesters of Destiny is one of the bands that have inspired Circle the most. Circle honors the masterpiece of psychedelic heavy metal by performing two classic songs (End of Time, God Told Me to) from the album. On this record Circle's line-up includes the original Jesters Bruce Duff and Ray Violet! LONG LIVE JESTERS OF DESTINY! Limited to 500 copies!
